How to take great pizza pics with your phone

High-quality pictures can make a big difference in how potential customers perceive your pizzeria. Here’s how you can take stunning pizza pictures for your menu using just your phone.

Don’t have the fanciest smartphone? No problem.

Here’s the shortlist of how to take great pizza pics with your phone, with more in-depth explanations below:

  • Shoot pizza fresh and unsliced. Large pizza is ideal.

  • Shoot pizza on the metal tray if possible. And don’t crop it.

  • Use good, natural lighting for your pizza photography. Bring it over to the window

  • Shoot straight down on the pizza. Make sure there are no shadows on the pie.

Use good lighting

Sunlight brings out the best in your pizza. Try to take photos during the day, close to windows, or outside.

This is way better than your camera’s flash. Avoid fluorescent, dim lighting, or taking photos at night. Natural light from the sun helps us see all the details of this pizza really well.

Shoot food fresh

Pizzeria food looks best when it is fresh and still warm.

That’s especially key for pizza, but the same applies to salads, appetizers, desserts, and everything else on your menu.

Fill up the photo with your food item (don’t crop it)

Many people will be seeing your food photo on a mobile device. The bigger the food item is in the photo, the better!

Make sure your pizza pic consists of just one pie that takes up the majority of the photo for maximum effect.

Shoot straight down on the pizza

We’re talking directly overhead. This way, your customer can see the pizza and all its toppings without too many distracting items.

This approach to pizza photography lets your customer see the whole pie and all its toppings, but avoids including too many distracting items.

Shoot the pizza unsliced

This will show the pizza at its best as ingredients don’t flop over or slices start separating. If it’s already sliced and you can’t make a new one in time, just make sure the pizza is entirely intact.

Take pizza pics using full pies only. Slices or partial pies are appetizing in person, but when it comes to pizzeria photography, they can sometimes look like leftover food.
